Last Dance, Lost Dance
CHOREOGRAPHED BY CARLO ANTONIO VILLANUEVA
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, FALL 2022
This piece was a post-modern exploration of dance, posing questions about improvisation, and ways that design could inform and challenge the dance. In our choices as a team, we wanted to find ways to interact with one another and change the movement of the piece. We invented certain design “happenings” during the piece. As part of this, I devised the vinyl pieces pictured here. The stiffness of the materials changed how the performers moved in them, and each night the dancers peeled away these layers in a slightly different way.
